MEET THE TEAM - PART. 1

MEET THE TEAM - PART. 1

Building authentic, long lasting relationships is a major part of our "WHY?" and one of the ways we choose to connect with others in this kids space is through building a brand rep program.

We like to think of the brand rep program as an opportunity to build deeper connections with families that support what we do. As they say, it takes a village-and without the continuous love, encouragement, and feedback, we wouldn't be where we are today.

We're honored to be in community with families from all corners of the world. In this two part series, we'll get to know the 6 families whose energy and thoughtfulness make up team même.

Rachel - @supernoodlerach

Would you be kind enough to introduce yourself and your little one, and the part of the world you’re checking in from?

My name is Rachel and I work in marketing for Nike, and I am also the co-founder of Food and Lycra - a platform aimed at diversifying and making fitness more accessible for young girls. I am also mummy to bbygrl Rivah, who is 8months old! We are from London, but soon to be residing in Amsterdam!

We’re extremely grateful to have you as part of our même. family. Could you tell us what it is about même. that attracted you to the brand?

I've been following meme for a few years now, way before having a kid was on the agenda! I discovered the brand when trying to find cool clothes for my friend's kids, clothes that I would wear myself! I love that the clothes can be shared between brothers and sisters - as a new mum I am already hating how much waste there is in buying baby clothes because babies grow so quick!

When shopping for your kiddo, what are things you look for in the overall qualities and experience of a brand?

Aligned values as my own when I shop for clothes of my own; good quality = less waste and can be passed on!

For many, 2020 was one of the most challenging years as we all dealt with a collective struggle and trauma. What are some ways you and your family were able to navigate through it?

Well for me, it was one of the best years of our lives as baby Rivah came into our lives! She's helped bring joy, hope, and happiness to everyone around us (and on my instagram) during a time which has been so tough for all. She's a true shining star!

Here at même. we’re all about traditions, and letting the stories of our past generations guide us. What are some traditions you and your family hold close, passed down from previous generations?

There's probably so much that we do unconsciously! Tradition and her heritage is something that we will always push with Rivah - especially as she is of mixed ethnicities (Chinese-Vietnamese, Jamaican and English). We want her to understand all sides of her heritage and where her family are from. One of the main ways we do this at the moment in her young age is through the food we offer her! She's going to be eating good!!

Venecia - @v.enecia

Would you be kind enough to introduce yourself and your little one(s), and the part of the world you’re checking in from?

My name is Venecia and my little one is Camila (ka-mEELA). She turns one in June! We are from the Greater Seattle Area.

We’re extremely grateful to have you as part of our même. family. Could you tell us what it is about même. that attracted you to the brand?

It has always been important to me to support small, BIPOC owned businesses. As a fellow BIPOC small business owner,  même appealed to me when looking for kid's clothes. The black/white color palette stood out to me and through browsing the more of the clothes, I could tell they were thoughtfully designed. Même was attractive for providing statement pieces that usually wouldn't be considered "suitable" for kids. Further looking into même, the brand ethos and the mindful decision to make the clothes equally wearable for both girls and boys was appealing to me as we expect to expand our family soon and want to invest in long-lasting, one-of-a-kind pieces for our kids.

When shopping for your kiddos, what are things you look for in the overall qualities and experience of a brand?

The overall qualities when shopping for Camila is knowing that the clothes are ethically and mindfully made.  Même's clothing quality is 100% and so soft, I can tell it is going to endure years of play and messes. Additionally, it is also important to me to include white, black and overall neutral colors to diversify the common stereotype that girls should only wear pinks and pastels.

For many, 2020 was one of the most challenging years as we all dealt with a collective struggle and trauma. What are some ways you and your family were able to navigate through it?

Camila was born in the thick of the pandemic last summer. It was definitely a challenging time especially as a new mom. We kept our core bubble to a minimum and with the support of my immediate family I was able to endure taking care of a newborn. Her first months of life were definitely bittersweet. We engaged in a lot of family game and movie nights and tried to focus on the good despite all of the odds. When Seattle would bless us with nice weather, we took advantage of those days and went on walks around Green Lake.

Here at même. we’re all about traditions, and letting the stories of our past generations guide us. What are some traditions you and your family hold close, passed down from previous generations?

Camila's roots stem from multiple places. I am a first generation Mexican/Nicaraguan American and Camila's dad is Irish/Filipino American. As we are preparing for her first birthday, it is so fulfilling to see all of our family's traditions coming into play. Camila's Mexican grandma is preparing to cook a variety of tacos that will include Carne Asada and Carne de Adobada. She is also preparing agua de Horchata (a sweet rice milk drink that I can drink by the gallon!). She has also made two handmade piñatas for Camila to attempt to break during her party, while we sing the traditional "Dale, Dale, Dale" piñata song. These are just a few snippets in an array of traditions our family holds. I am thankful she will be able to experience some of the foods and songs from her Mexican side of her culture during this very special first birthday party.

Imanie - @amirahimanie

Would you be kind enough to introduce yourself and your little one, and the part of the world you’re checking in from?

Hi, I’m Imanie a stay-at-home designer/entrepreneur and mom to the 6-year-old force of nature that is Qaleed! We’re from sunny Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

We’re extremely grateful to have you as part of our même. family. Could you tell us what it is about même. that attracted you to the brand?

What instantly caught my eye when I first stumbled across même. on Instagram was the unique, well thought and designed garments that you guys offer. It was unlike any other kids wear that I’ve seen. Being a designer myself, I also love the branding behind même. and how it’s not just about selling garments, but something way beyond that.

When shopping for your kiddo, what are things you look for in the overall qualities and experience of a brand?

We’ve recently become more mindful about our clothing and wardrobe choices – often opting for pieces that are practical, functional and transcend time and place. As much as we can, we try to adopt the same habits when it comes to shopping for our kids.

For many, 2020 was one of the most challenging years as we all dealt with a collective struggle and trauma. What are some ways you and your family were able to navigate through it?

We shifted our focus on what was most important, and that is family. Given that the most part of 2020 was spent at home, we became closer and stronger by doing everything together. My husband and I had also taught Qaleed how to skate and it was something we did every single day as a family during lock-down. It was our most favorite part of the day!

Here at même. we’re all about traditions, and letting the stories of our past generations guide us. What are some traditions you and your family hold close, passed down from previous generations?

From where we are, food is a major thing. Everything is celebrated with a (usually homecooked) feast! Even when there are no celebrations, our families will often get together to bond over dinner. A tradition that we recently started, and hope to pass on to future generations, is having treasure hunts on birthdays!
